What is a principal authority and why do they need to set up the account?

A principal authority is a director or senior associate of a business. They have the right level of authorisation to set up the account.

A principal authority, opens in a new tab is someone listed on the Australian Business Register, opens in a new tab (ABR) for a business. They may be a director, managing director, public officer or company secretary.

Only a principal authority can link their myID to the business’s Australian Business Number (ABN) in Relationship Authorisation Manager, opens in a new tab (RAM).

We use RAM to ensure the person setting up an Export Service account for a business is authorised to do so.
