What myGovID strength do I need?

Set up myGovID with the right strength to do things in the Export Service.

  • myGovID
  • Digital Identity
  • Account
  • Principal authority
  • Relationship Authorisation Manager (RAM)

You need a minimum myGovID identity strength of ‘standard’ to access the Export Service.

Business owners and principal authorities

Business owners and principal authorities need 'standard' or 'strong' myGovID to use Relationship Authorisation Manager (RAM). You can use it to:

  • link your business in RAM, and
  • authorise access to government services for employees in RAM.

To create an Export Service account, we recommend using 'strong' identity strength to make it faster to link your business online. To gain a 'strong' identity strength, you must provide additional proof you are the same person shown in your identity documents.

This includes verifying your passport and providing a scan of your face to check it matches. In the myGovID app, select ‘Turn on biometrics' to scan your face.

You can create an Export Service account with ‘standard’ strength but this involves calling the Australian Taxation Office (ATO) to manually link your business. Once you have created an account, you can authorise access for others to act for your business.

Employees and third parties

'Standard' strength is required for employees and third parties who need access to the Export Service for a business. To gain a 'standard' myGovID, you must verify your identity documents.

For more information on what you need to provide, go to How to set up, opens in a new tab your myGovID.
