Can’t create a myGovID

Find out some reasons why you are having trouble setting up your myGovID.

You may not be able to create a myGovID, opens in a new tab for the following reasons.

Identification issues

  • Your identity documents aren’t verified.
  • Your documents aren’t valid or have expired.
  • You are not an Australian citizen or don’t have a relevant visa.
  • Your photo doesn’t meet requirements.

Names don’t match

  • Your name has changed since you set up your myGovID.
  • Your name in myGovID doesn’t match your identity documents.
  • You incorrectly entered your name when setting up your myGovID.

Other reasons

  • You need to update your email in the myGovID app.
  • You already have an account.
